Clubs at TR
Student Lighthouse
The Student Lighthouse Team at TR is a dedicated group of second-grade students who meet monthly to support our school and community. Each year, we host various events that help students build friendships and leadership skills. Additionally, we organize fundraisers to support local organizations such as the SPCA and the Ronald McDonald House, contributing to their impactful work in the community.
Our team also takes on a yearly beautification project to enhance our school grounds and maintain ongoing initiatives throughout the school. Through these efforts, the Student Lighthouse Team plays a crucial role in fostering positive peer role models while supporting our Leader in Me and 7 Habits character development initiatives.
In addition to the Student Lighthouse Team, we have an Adult Lighthouse Team that meets monthly to enhance and improve leadership systems within the school. Once a year, both teams collaborate on a school improvement project focused on beautification with a leadership theme.
Teddy Bear Mail Club
The Teddy Bear Mail Club is an exciting in-school postal program at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School. This initiative allows students, teachers, and administrators to send letters through an internal post office, with conveniently placed mailboxes throughout the building. Each year, over 900 letters are delivered through this unique postal system!
The club meets on Tuesday mornings from 8:00 AM to 8:35 AM. Second-grade students have the opportunity to participate as "postal employees", rotating every four weeks. Club members take on various postal roles, including Postmaster, Facer, Sorter, Nixie Clerk, and Delivery Person. To enhance the experience, students receive postal hats, name tags, and a special coloring book from the U.S. Post Office.
At the beginning of the school year, staff members receive a school directory to help facilitate the program. Additionally, seasonal writing paper is provided throughout the school year to encourage creativity and engagement. Students love sending letters to friends, siblings, and teachers, while our second graders take pride in making the postal service run smoothly.
TR Sports Club
The TR Sports Club is a before-school program where second graders can enjoy team sports in a fun and supportive environment. Students collaboratively select sports to play, including soccer, basketball, and floor hockey. The club provides an opportunity to experience friendly competition while fostering teamwork and cooperation.
Every game concludes with a handshake line, where students exchange high-fives with their opponents, reinforcing the value of good sportsmanship. The TR Sports Club is a fantastic way for students to stay active, build friendships, and develop important life skills through sports.
